CLAT Overview

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programmes at participating National Law Universities (NLUs) and affiliated institutions across India. CLAT is conducted once a year in offline mode and is the primary entrance examination for admission to 5-year integrated LLB and LLM programmes at participating NLUs.

CLAT 2027 Important Dates

  • Notification Release : First week of July 2026
  • Application Form Opens : August 3, 2026
  • Last Date to Apply : October 31, 2026
  • Admit Card Release : Two weeks before the exam
  • CLAT 2027 Exam Date : December 6, 2026 (Sunday), 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • Provisional Answer Key : 1-2 days after the exam
  • Final Answer Key & Result : One week after the exam
  • Counselling Registration Begins : 1-2 days after the result

CLAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

For UG (5-year LLB):

  • Must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • Minimum marks: 45% for General/OBC/PwD/EWS candidates.
  • Minimum marks: 40% for SC/ST candidates.
  • Candidates appearing for their Class 12 qualifying examination in March/April 2027 are also eligible to apply.
  • There is no upper age limit for the UG programme.

CLAT 2027 Application Process

Applications are accepted online via the official CLAT Consortium website.

Steps:

  • Register on the CLAT 2027 portal using a mobile number and email ID.
  • Verify the registered mobile number using the OTP.
  • Fill in the application form and select the desired programme and category.
  • Upload the required documents, photograph and signature.
  • Pay the application fee online.
  • Submit the completed application form and retain a copy for future reference.

Application Fee:

  • General/OBC: ₹4,000
  • SC/ST/BPL/PwD: ₹3,500
  • Previous Years’ Question Papers: ₹500 additional

CLAT 2027 Exam Pattern

  • Marking Scheme : +1 for correct, -0.25 for incorrect

  • Current Affairs including General Knowledge : 28-32 questions approximately 25%)

  • Legal Reasoning : 22-26 question (approximately 20%)
  • Quantitative Techniques :10-14 questions (approximately 10%)
  • The CLAT 2027 syllabus focuses primarily on comprehension, reasoning and analytical skills, rather than testing extensive prior knowledge. However, prior knowledge may be useful in the Current Affairs including General Knowledge section.
